Hi. Resumes. The function of a resume (thus of the resume preparer/resume writer) is to secure interviews with prospective employers.

How do resume developers operate? How do I write them for clients? Most writing services tend to use pre-made templates and sort of "fill-in the areas" of a generic outline. What you usually get is a so-called resume that is inhumane, extremely general, and looks like it was done via a template. 

Consequently, there is little uniqueness about the work of many resume developers. What is worse is that the interviewers can tell it. Your first big task is to be responsible for providing them an effective resume, and you basically fail out of the gate with this type of generic document.

I work differently. I write all resumes individually in WORD documents. I know what to ask you for, what is needed for inclusion. 

Sure, contact info (precise name, e-mail, cell phone, address, etc) is required, as is a work history, your education background, an objective for me to keep in mind, and all the associated names, dates, and locations of each. For starters, do you have the time and resources to look for exactly the type of new opportunity that you want, or must you quickly find any type of work? 

Specific Position/Certain Companies

If you can be a little choosey, by all means target a specific position or type of job (or certain companies) and have an executive or specific resume and cover letter written for it. Present yourself as a valuable commidity, a partner or team player to add value.

General Opening

If time is of the essence, cast a wider net, and be a bit more general without focusing 100% on a certain profession on the resume itself (but craft the cover letter to the general opening(s) they are offering).

Do Company & Job Research

Regardless of the approach taken, make certain that you study-up on the company and Google info about that certain type of job at that company before your interview with the company. Secondly, look at your own resume, and be prepared to answer any questions you feel might be asked based upion it or any weaknesses you truly have. 

Ace Interviews

Once there, be a good listener in the interview, but be open to throwing-in some info to let the interviewer know that you know something about the situation you aspire to walk into. Do not be simply a responder or reactor. Have personality. Lastly, be yourself. The most important thing might-well be for the interviewer to simply LIKE you. Ace interviews!

Interview Follow-up

Regardless of how good or bad you feel like the interview went, do send a follow-up note or letter the next day, expressing your appreciation for the meeting and offering to clarify or provide any more information desired. Understand?

How much do resumes cost? This is a common question for job-seekers. Like anything else, professionally-written resumes range widely in price. Resumes in Atlanta, and the nation in general, cost between $30 and $500. Obviously, that answer doesn't help you much - so please read-on.

Generally-speaking, typical resumes cost $50 - $100, while executive-type white collar resumes are usually priced at between $65 and $150. Why such a price variance? 

There are many variables involved in the resume business that require varying degrees of work-effort, planning, organizing, time, and formatting. The writer needs to have a feel for the client, and be sold upon him or her before trying to "sell" the client to a potential employer. Usually, the more data and info the better.

I like to have all contact information, job dates and titles and locations, exact education dates and specialties and locations, 8 or 10 adjectives describing the client, the client's purpose/goal for the resume (type of position/job wanted), all special skills and talents, awards and specific accomplishments (especially functional), a personal quote by the client about work ethics, and also a paragraph or two about them as a person. Resumes need to be crisp and precise, period.
